My dad is facing sever pain in heel . He already has knee pain which needs to be operated later. Is it because of vericose or something else ?

My husband's knee was swollen last Thursday while playing football.. we had a check up there was no crack but ligament got tear. one week's rest was advised and some pain killers . today one week is complete there is still some swelling on knee. can you please advice shall we continue with rest or hot massage or ice pack or something else?
