Bone & Muscle problems

My wife has a pain and swelling in palms and fingers with feeling of numbness and the pain radiates back to upper arm. She gets relief with ice compression and rest but any movement of hand again starts the problem. This started with right hand some 6 months back and was cured with rest and now again developed in right hand as well as left hand. Please advise.

My mother broke 2 wrist bones and the doctor insists that plate implant is needed for her as bones are shattered. Is plate replacement necessary due to her age.
