Does it cover everything?

Trying to avoid contrast CT urography due to lung condition – is low-dose CT + MRI a safer option? Follow up of my last post Medical history: Chronic lung issues (frequent HRCT scans), currently being evaluated for possible kidney/urinary tract problem Current symptoms: Burning during urination, dark brown urine, lower back pain Urine test: Shows protein My urologist recommended a CT urography with contrast, but I’m really concerned about two things: 1. Radiation exposure – because I already get HRCTs regularly for my lung condition 2. Iodine contrast – I’ve read it may affect kidney function, especially if there’s already an issue I asked about switching to an MRI, but the doctor said no. So I’m planning to ask whether we can do both of these instead: 1. A low-dose, non-contrast CT scan to reduce radiation and avoid iodine 2. An MRI with contrast to get detailed imaging without radiation Has anyone here done something similar? Would this combination cover what a cont

Should I ask for an MRI with contrast

Hi everyone, I’ve attached a note from my doctor (see image). I was recommended a CT urography if creatinine <1.4, and a CT KUB (plain) if creatinine is higher. My concern is — CT scans expose you to radiation, and I already have lung issues breathing problem and have undergone multiple CT scans in the past. I’ll probably need more in the future too. That’s why I’m wondering: Wouldn't an MRI with contrast be a better option? MRI provides more detailed imaging and doesn’t involve radiation, which seems safer, especially long-term. Also, to add context, the doctor I saw is a final-year urology student at a medical college, so I want to make sure I advocate for the best option for my health. Would it be reasonable to ask for an MRI with contrast instead of a CT? Has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Supplements to help with IgA nephropathy

Dear doctors, I'm a male 36 years old recently diagnosed with IgA nephropathy with GFR of 84 and protein leakage almost negligible amount of 0.25 mg/mL. My proteinurea only increases when I get a trigger from a flu infection. Can supplements like N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) and CoQ10 help along with good lifestyle and exercise?

How much water to drink before test

My doctor asked me to check my kidney health with eGFR and serum creatinine blood tests. I noticed that before the test, drinking water or not drinking water causes the levels to fluctuate a lot. To get accurate results, how much water should I drink before the test? Should I drink it 1 hour or 2 hours before the test? Also, can I eat food before the test, or should I go on an empty stomach? Please guide me clearly. Thank you.
