Pain in the ear(Right side)

I've recently caught the flu(cold). It's over a week now with the flu. I'm mostly ok. Only coughing up mucus. Today morning when i woke up my right side ear started paining. Earlier i thought it was blocked(like when sometimes during bathing water goes into the ear) so i tried blowing up (holding my nose and try to bloat). But no effect. Is this because of my flu? Is mucus is pushing my ear drum?
