Can I get done one first Non Contrast?
Hi everyone,
I’ve been advised to undergo CT Urography both with and without contrast, but I’m concerned about radiation exposure. Since I mostly suspect it’s kidney stones, I’m wondering if there’s a way to reduce the radiation.
Would it be possible to first have the non-contrast CT done, then consult with my doctor the following day? If needed, I could then proceed with the contrast CT after the consultation.
Alternatively, would it be better to have both scans (with and without contrast) done at the same time?

Mother's potassium level is high-(6.17)
Hello docs, My mom's potassium level is high from the past few months. Consulted the family doc and took medicines as well. It has gone down below 5 but now again it's 6.17 in recent tests. She gets tired quickly and feels nervous at times . I have noticed foamy urine and then suggested tests and consultation. Later we came to know about this situation.
Please suggest..

Can MRI Replace CT for Urologic Issues?
I’ve had recurrent urinary infections and intermittent left lower back pain for the past three years. I was consulting a government medical college urologist and now seeing a private urologist, who has advised an abdomen and pelvis CT scan with contrast.
Due to breathing issues, I’ve already undergone 5 CT scans and am concerned about further radiation exposure.
I understand CT KUB (non-contrast) is best for kidney stones. But can I opt for CT KUB (for stones) + MRI abdomen and pelvis with contrast (for soft tissue evaluation)?
Would this approach provide what the doctor needs in more detail, with lower radiation?
Or should I proceed with the recommended CT abdomen-pelvis with contrast, as it may offer the most detailed imaging?
Looking for professional guidance on whether this alternative is suitable.

Lower Back Pain — Suspect Kidney Stone
Hi Doctors,
I’ve been experiencing lower back pain and I suspect it might be due to a kidney stone. Unfortunately, I can’t undergo a CT scan as I’ve already had multiple chest HRCTs recently. An ultrasound (USG) didn't reveal anything conclusive, and an X-ray can't detect small stones.
Are there any other reliable options to detect the size and location of a kidney stone without a CT scan?
Can ureteroscopy be used as a diagnostic tool to detect stones near the kidney? If yes, what is the approximate cost for diagnostic ureteroscopy?
If not, what alternatives can accurately detect kidney stones in such cases?
