Tooth and Mouth Problems

I got braces about 4 month ago because my teeth were only slightly misaligned. The dentist extracted 2 upper (premolars). Now I'm worried that the extraction gaps are too big and more than the space that was required to align the teeth and I'm worried they won't close. What do I do? What are my options in case at the end of my treatment it turns out that the gaps can't be closed?

I recently got a cortisone injection and a few days after had an outbreak of cold sores in my mouth and in the corner of my mouth. I was just wondering if it could possibly be from the stress and pain from the cortisone shot in my back?
