Hello Doctor, I was taking lipirose 5 mg since my cholesterol was high for almost 3 months now. In these 3 months I also followed strict diet and walking at least 45 mins a day. I also reduce some weight and feel healthy now. At this instance can I stop taking statin and focus on diet and exercise instead and keep tracking my cholesterol levels once a month? I'm little worried of the side effects of statin drugs. I also read somewhere that statin usage can one day make you diabetic. Is it so? My dad had a open heart surgery when he was 63. He was diabetic for almost 25 years. I'm 33 now and as of now. I'm not diabetic nor I have BP issues. And for cholesterol also now it's under control with all diet and exercise plus 5mg of statin daily. Is it safe to stop statin, since it's already small dosage and focus on diet and exercise? Kindly advice.

I use to have high cholesterol. I was 79 kg. I've been taking statins for 5 months now. I've also been on a healthy diet since 5 months. I'm still on a healthy diet and I'm also still taking statins. I am 30.I have very high cholestrol and i tried 3-4 statins and red yeast rice tablets.all give me muscule pain and nerve related issues. Is there something else that i can take to lower cholestrol? Which works on different principle than statins do. Ex niacin or zetia or colsevelam? Will they cause extreme muscule pain? Hello, my father suffering from blocks in the heart. Doctors told CABG is not needed. He is on rosuva statin 20, clopidogrel 75, aspirin 75, olemsartin 20, metxl 25 ( for bp ). He used the above med for 4 months. His total cholesterol has come down slightly below the normal value . Electrolytes are normal . Is it ok to continue the statins. Or any remedy ?
