My 2 months old baby has cough and cold after a week of her birth Dr recommended to use Alex p syrup three times a day , her cold has reduced but if I stop giving her the syrup, her cold and cough again continues ......what to do?

What to do if fever continues to come back after 6 hours of medication(giving ibugesic plus syrup for 2.5 year kid) How many times we can repeat giving the syrup?
