Patient has infection in chest and swollen lungs , on ventilator , can not breath on her own

Dear team my dad admitted in ICU due to breathing problems with pneumonia, he is in ICU from 11th October to till date, now doctors are telling his lungs not functioning only 40% left, whenever I see him in ICU he looks active and respond for all medical.
