Kidney Problems

Father has been diagnosed with UTI , with severe chills and doctor advised for ultrasonography and found out he has kidney stone in both the kidney calculus measuring 9 mm in the leftkidney and 6 mm in the left kidney. After couple of weeks doctor adivsed to go for CT scan and found the kidney stone size as 16*10mm in lower pole of right kidney and 19*14mm in left renal pelvis. He has Diabetes and undergone angioplasty. Do he needs to undergo surgery for kidney stone or tablets can reduce the calculus. Kindly suggest.

Can it be reduced without medication? I do go to the gym 3-4 days a week. Also, will whey protein intake raise the levels of SGPT and SGOT ?
