A recent blood test showed by TSH level 4.8, T3 level 96, T4 level 9.5 So should I start medication? If not how can I maintain normal level?

Hi , My husband has been recently diagnosed (2 weeks back )with type2 diabetes and he is 33 years old . He has been asked to take metformin medication .. but I have read this has a lot of side effects and is banned in US . Can he still take metformin ? Is it advisable??

I have diabetes. Doctor gave me insulin glargine injection. And advised to take 12 units. I bought it from pharmacy, it is in packing of 3 ml.
