My son had viral fever since yesterday.doc gave meftal p for 2days.he said even if fever is not there i should give every 6hrs.but today he didnt have fever since morning so i didnt give. Should i have given?? Pls tell the reason if yes

Dear Doctor.
My 4.6yrs son had cold cough and fever from 9th June but cold and fever gradually decreased to 80% but he has still cough till today. And now I have he has got 99.6f fever.
