Shortness of breath for 85 year old man

Good health condition generally except for sudden shortness of breath, gas problem which keeps appearing on and off also leading to abdominal heaviness and slight pain in chest. This is not continuous but occurs once in a way. Lying down helps subside the pain than sitting or standing. Please advise.
