A piece of tooth is broken 15 days before. Now since last night he complains of pain pointing on the same tooth.. How to help him with the pain?

I have a cavity, 2 years back I had RCT(Root canal treatment) and dentist filled that cavity with some temporary stuff afterwards. She advised me to go see her again after couple of days to get that tooth capped. Unfortunately, I had to leave town next day and then I ignored the matter. Now, there is a big cavity again, my tooth is really sensitive this time and it is giving me some real tough time also painful some times. What should I do? Should I get it removed or there is another way?
