For low iron levels has given syrup tonoferon, 1.5 spoon once a day

My HB dropped from 11 to 8.7 after c section in week 38. Dr suggested injection or tablets. I heard inj may have some side effects so I chosen tablets. Is it normal to drop HB levels after c section? And is tablet option is also fine to choose? Please suggest.
