HB A1c= 8.7. Blood sugar Fasting 157 MG/dl and pp 198 My age 60 yrs male. What medicine will you please prescribe.

I am a little worried about my Father as his weight is losing drastically since past few days. (Age: 58, Weight: 57) I am really not sure if this is normal and suspect it might be because of his high Blood Sugar. (He takes pills for Sugar regularly). NB: He drinks a lot, almost regularly and is a chain-smoker as well. Please Suggest what to do.
