Want to avoid spectacles

Last year when I visited an ophthalmologist he prescribed me for a specs with -0.5 lenses. In april '15 he prescribed me specs with -1.0 lenses for both eyes. Now I think I need corrective lenses with more power. But I want to avoid specs. Is there any way to avoid specs? And also tell me how can I improve my eyesight.

Redness and pain in eye

Dear doctor, I am an engineering student. 9 days back, I was studying till early morning for an exam and I was sleep deprived. My eyes hurt and started watering.
