Tooth and Mouth Problems

Doctor told me to do XRAY of teeth. I have temporary filling done in my lower wisdom tooth. Dr advised for either root canal or extraction. i am ready for extraction because i am ACCA student and cant go for root canal treatment at all. but when i am saying to the dr. that my lower wisdom tooth is feeling the pain why she is not ready to extract it without an XRAY? why is XRAY so important although i know which tooth is causing pain. done with my antibiotics course too. suggest something thanks
