What are the best birth control pills? And do i need to consult a doctor everytime i need to start them or can i just start taking them if i have taken them before?

Hi. My wife started the femilon pill last month. And will finish 21 days on Dec 21st. She wants to postpone her period to the last week of December as she will be traveling on 23rd December. Is it ok to start a new pack of femilon and take the 7 days break in between the pack? Or should she just continue taking the pill and miss her period this month. Plz advice
