Ssri weight gain

I am on escitalopram 10 mg once daily in the night for anxiety and depression. Tried sertraline 50 mg previously but stopped as it wasn't that effective for handling my anxiety disorder. Now escitalopram whenever i was on it, has caused atleast 5 to 6 kg weight gain and i find it extremely hard to loose weight when on the drug escitalopram. I don't know what it does to my metabolism that i find it so hard to loose weight even when proper diet and exercise is followed. Please advise a solution... should i shift to another molecule or ssri which won't effect weight? Or focus more on nutrition and exercise only

Is it polypharmacy

Hello mbbs doctor here, i have been diagnosed as case of GAD and Bipolar iii (cyclothymia), i have all the physical symptoms of anxiety like fibromyalgia and ibs. Get severe physical pain. So i was prescribed escitalopram, but escitalopram 20 mg made me hypomaniac. Then i was diagnosed as bipolar iii and put on lithium in December 2025. Stayed on escitalopram 15 mg and lithium 750 mg till march 1. Since march i have been taking buspirone 10 mg, and trying to slowly up the dose, now on lamotrigine 50 mg. Now i am on 6 meds, 3 for anxiety - buspirone 10 mg, escitalopram 15 mg, propranolol 20mg. 2 mood stabilizer - lithium 600 mg, lamotrigine 50 mg, and one for brain fog- modafinil 50mg. My core symptoms of lack of sustained attention has not improved, shouldn't we just discontinue modafinil and escitalopram, and explore some other option for anxiety. I think escitalopram is impairing my sustained attention. Anxiety used to just make me lose the train of thought but not jumping thoughts

Is it depression?

I’ve been feeling emotionally numb and disconnected for a while, with very low motivation and almost no sense of contentment even after achieving things like getting multiple job offers. I experience frequent overthinking, but sometimes my mind goes completely blank or numb, which affects my mood and ability to function. Recently, I’ve also noticed memory issues, difficulty focusing, and even trouble recalling words or conversations. I feel constantly mentally exhausted, irritable, and physically drained, along with dizziness at times. On top of this, I’m dealing with a stressful family environment where I feel controlled and unable to have personal space, which adds to my frustration and sense of being stuck. I’m confused about my career decisions, feel overwhelmed by everything happening at once, and often feel like I’m not in control of my life or moving forward, even though I am. Overall, I feel detached, tired, and unsure how to manage my thoughts, emotions, and situation.
