I have been suffering from pain behind my knees for many years now. It comes and goes on its own but while it is there, it is uncomfortable and distracting and painful sometimes. It is worse when I have to fully straighten my leg. I sleep with a pillow below my knee because of this. It feels better after a few stretches when the knee makes a popping sound.
Could you help me understand what is it? And if it is serious? What should be the solution to it?
P.S. I am a petite girl so my weight is also in check and not burdening my knee.

I had pain in knees when i do squats or lunges. Previous i didnt had any symptoms,but from past 2 months when i had started exercising i got the symptoms. I dont feel pain while walking or while climbing stairs.
