Fillings and its longevity
Why do dentists use composite over amalgam? The average lifespan of composite is 7-8 years while amalgam is 15 years which is nearly double. Plus amalgam has 40-50 years of longevity in many cases and can withstand chewing forces much better than composites. Although there is a debate regarding mercury content in amalgam but even the ADA and dental council of india hasn't prohibited it from using and usually inert in nature . Composites also have BPA which is cancer-causing. And why is gold getting so out of fashion and dentists do not practice gold inlays/ onlays?
