Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) is a state-run public hospital and medical university on Punjagutta Road, Punjagutta Market, Punjagutta, Hyderabad 500082, near Aurora's PG College. It was established by the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad and inaugurated by Princess Durreshehvar, is recognised by the Medical Council of India and is administered under a Governing Council and Executive Board.NIMS offers multi-speciality and super-speciality treatment, with established strengths in orthopaedics, cardiology, neurology, oncology and trauma care. Departments include cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery; neurology and neurosurgery; nephrology and urology, including urological surgery; gastroenterology, gastrointestinal surgery and paediatric gastro-hepatology; general and laparoscopic surgery; obstetrics and gynaecology, with gynaecological laparoscopy and obstetric ultrasonography; and pulmonology, geriatrics, pathology, radiology and cosmetology. Diagnostic and surgical facilities include X-ray, MRI scan and operation theatres. The institute also runs MD, MS, M.Ch, DM, PhD and paramedical diploma programmes recognised by the National Medical Commission.In 2013 NIMS expanded with two new hospital blocks, a 300-bed super speciality hospital and a 200-bed trauma hospital.
