If your TSH is 12 while T3 and T4 are normal, it may indicate subclinical hypothyroidism.
Next Steps
Please repeat TSH and check anti-TPO antibodies to confirm the findings. Since you have no symptoms, medication is not always necessary, but treatment may be considered depending on repeat TSH levels and other risk factors.
Health Tips
Please share your reports for further advice.

Do share the reports if available. If there are no symptoms ,then there is no need to take medications right now but I recommend a follow up test of TSH after few weeks.

An isolated abnormal TSH does not always require medication. Please share your TSH, FT3, and FT4 values. Treatment depends on the degree of abnormality and thyroid hormone levels. Repeat testing may be advised before starting medication.

A TSH level of 12 mIU/L with normal T3 and T4 is suggestive of subclinical hypothyroidism, provided free T4 is normal. However, overt hypothyroidism should be excluded by checking free T4. I would recommend repeating TSH and free T4 after approximately 6–8 weeks and checking anti-TPO antibodies to assess for autoimmune thyroiditis. Regarding treatment: In a 29-year-old asymptomatic adult, levothyroxine is generally recommended when TSH is persistently ≥10 mIU/L. Therefore, if the repeat TSH remains around 12, treatment should be considered after clinical evaluation. Please consult a physician before starting medication.

Hello, Your TSH level of 12 mIU/L is elevated, while T3 and T4 are reportedly normal. If your free T4 is normal, this suggests subclinical hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland requires increased stimulation to maintain normal hormone levels. Although you have no symptoms, a TSH above 10 deserves medical attention. This is generally not an emergency, but treatment may be beneficial to prevent progression to overt hypothyroidism.
Next Steps
Consult a general physician or endocrinologist for evaluation. Repeat TSH and free T4 in approximately 6–8 weeks to confirm persistent elevation. Consider anti-TPO antibodies to assess for autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's disease). Levothyroxine treatment is generally recommended when TSH remains above 10 mIU/L, even without symptoms, after considering individual clinical factors. If medication is started, repeat TSH after approximately 6–8 weeks to assess treatment response.
Health Tips
Avoid starting thyroid medication or iodine supplements without medical supervision. Maintain a balanced diet and use iodised salt in normal dietary amounts. My recommendation: A TSH of 12 should not be ignored. Although it is usually not dangerous in the short term, repeat testing and a physician consultation are important to determine whether levothyroxine is required. With appropriate monitoring and treatment, thyroid function can usually be managed effectively. Wishing you good health!

A TSH level of 12 mIU/L with normal T3 and T4 may indicate subclinical hypothyroidism, provided free T4 is within the reference range. Even in the absence of symptoms, this finding warrants further evaluation. I would recommend repeating TSH and free T4 in approximately 8–12 weeks and checking anti-TPO antibodies to assess for autoimmune thyroid disease. Review any previous thyroid reports, medications, and relevant medical history. If TSH remains ≥10 mIU/L on repeat testing, levothyroxine treatment should be considered after clinical assessment. Please consult a physician for individualized advice and do not start thyroid medication without medical guidance.

A TSH of 12 with normal T3 and T4 usually means subclinical hypothyroidism. Your thyroid is working harder than it should, but hasn't yet pushed your actual hormone levels out of range. It's common and manageable. Even without symptoms, a TSH this high usually needs treatment rather than just watching.
Next Steps
See a physician or endocrinologist to confirm with a repeat test and an anti-TPO antibody check, since that helps decide how it's managed going forward. Treatment usually means a daily thyroid hormone tablet, and most people feel completely normal once levels are corrected.
Health Tips
Don't start or adjust any thyroid medicine on your own. Get this reviewed in person soon, since untreated subclinical hypothyroidism can slowly affect energy, weight and cholesterol over time.
