I recently had a minimally invasive heart surgery (ARV-RAT) performed by Dr. Chandrashekhar Kulkarni at Nanavati Max Hospital, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the care I received.

My experience with Dr. Chandrasekhar Kulkarni from Day 1 has been very pleasant and insightful. My mother was suffering from breathlessness due to mitral valve regurgitation and was admitted to a local hospital in June 2018 because of high blood pressure due to the above-mentioned cardiac issue. That’s when I decided to meet Dr. Chandrashekar Kulkarni at Hiranandani Hospital Powai for further opinion on my mother’s case.

On my first meeting with Dr. Chandrashekar was in September 2018. He carefully diagnosed my mother’s symptoms and recommended some reports for further investigation (Angiography, 2D Echo, Blood Test etc.) and based on the reports, he carefully and precisely explained the various options that we had available in hand for my mother’s case. Together we concluded that my mother would require a Mitral Valve repair surgery.

Based on the Angiography Report Dr. Chandrashekhar first suggested to go for Angioplasty to avoid any complications during the Mitral Valve surgery. Based on his suggestion we went for the Angioplasty surgery under his & Dr. Hrishikesh Patil’s guidance.

The Angioplasty surgery was successful and was performed in an extremely professional manner. The recovery of my mother was also speedy.

Post angioplasty we decided that we will go for the major Mitral Valve surgery in October 2018, throughout this process Dr. Chandrashekar has been guiding and counselling us in an extremely professional manner being humble, insightful, and precise in every conversation and decision.

The approach that he has towards his patients is extremely pleasant, unstressfull and relaxing. Even after being busy he made sure he explained all the minute details of this complicated surgery to me so that I feel comfortable. He also took all possible efforts from his side to counsel and make my mother comfortable about this surgery. Also, he made it clear before the surgery that along with Mitral Valve, tricuspid valve will also need repair.

On the day of surgery, everything was planned and implemented by Dr. Chandrashekar and his staff in a very professional manner. The surgery took more than 5 hrs. to complete (8:30 AM to 3:30 PM). Post-surgery Dr. Chandrashekar explained me all the nuances and told me that he had replaced the mitral valve and repaired tricuspid valve effectively. He planned the next steps precisely to ensure my mother has a speedy recovery. On the same day of surgery at around 9:00 PM my mother was back in her senses from the anesthesia that was given during the operation and gradually started recuperating under Dr. Kulkarni’s guidance. Dr. Chandrashekar Kulkarni and his staff were carefully observing my mother's recovery every day. After around a week from the day of surgery my mother was discharged and as I write this review it has been almost two months since surgery and my mother does not have any issues till date.

I must say my entire experience throughout this period with Dr. Chandrashekar Kulkarni was very enriching. His vast and rich experience in his field of Cardiology coupled with his humble, friendly detailed oriented and results driven approach towards his patients is worth a ten-on-ten rating.
