Dengue fever, caused by mosquitoes is known to have taken hundreds of lives in India in the previous years. Can we not fight this? We surely can by preparing early and remaining cautious the entire season?

How can we do this?

The first thing to keep in mind is that the disease is mosquito-borne. Therefore, we need to get rid of mosquitoes. Apart from making our homes mosquito-free zones, we need to be careful in the public too.

Wearing short clothes is attractive in North India summers but you need to be careful. If you travel in public buses, have to visit dirty places for your work, or have to visit any public place where the surroundings are not clean, short dresses can be harmful. Use mosquito-repellent creams while visiting such places.

Next most important thing is your eating habits. Eat clean food and water. When eating out, be mindful about the hygiene factor. Carry your own water bottle of clean mineral water rather than drinking tap water offered by eateries.

Dengue might be deadly, but together we all can fight it. We need to do our best at our personal level and the surroundings will change too, eventually. Also, it is our responsibility to seek medical care as soon as any symptoms are noticed. It will help in early recovery and will also save other people from getting infected.
