What is Dengue Fever?
Dengue fever is a viral infection caused by viruses transmitted to the human body by the bite of an infected female Aedes mosquito.
What are the causes of Dengue Fever?
Dengue fever virus causes dengue fever. The virus is transmitted into a human body by a mosquito, infected with a dengue virus, through its bite. The virus then travels in the blood stream and then starts multiplying itself in the whole body. The mosquito becomes infected when it bites a person with dengue virus in their blood. It can’t be spread directly from one person to another person.
Symptoms of Dengue Fever
Some of the premonitory symptoms of dengue fever include:
1. Severe pain in the bones, joints, muscles, abdomen or head
2. Pain behind the eyes
3. Sudden high fever
4. Fatigue
5. Nausea and vomiting
6. Skin rashes or red spots
7. Mild bleeding of nose or gum or easy bruising.
Dengue symptoms sometimes are mild and can be mistaken for those of a viral infection. However, if not taken care, the symptoms can progress to massive high fever, damage to lymph and blood vessels, bleeding, enlargement of the liver, failure of the circulatory system, shock, and death.
Who gets Dengue Fever?
People of all ages are at a risk of getting affected by dengue fever. People with weakened immune systems as well as those with a second or subsequent dengue infection are believed to be at greater risk.
