It's essential for your cousin to follow the specific instructions given by his dentist for post-scaling care, including when he can resume certain activities like drinking alcohol. Since your cousin was prescribed ointments for his gums, it indicates that he may have some gum sensitivity or inflammation after the scaling procedure. Alcohol consumption during this healing period might irritate the gums and delay the recovery process. Typically, after a scaling procedure, it's advisable to avoid alcohol for at least 24 to 48 hours. During this time, it's essential to take proper care of his oral health and follow any additional guidelines provided by the dentist. He should continue using the prescribed ointments, and if there are specific instructions regarding when to use them in relation to eating and drinking, he should adhere to them. To get precise information about when it is safe for him to resume alcohol consumption, your cousin should contact his dentist or the dental office where the scaling procedure was performed. The dentist can provide personalized advice based on your cousin's specific oral health condition and the extent of the scaling procedure. Remember, alcohol consumption can have negative effects on oral health in the long term, including an increased risk of gum disease and other oral health problems. Encourage your cousin to follow the dentist's instructions for post-scaling care and consider reducing or eliminating alcohol consumption for his overall well-being.
