Intrinsic stains don't go by just scaling and polishing, however polishing can reduce its shade slightly. Intrinsic stains needs bleaching . extrinsic stains can be prevented by regular scaling and polishing at least once a year. However with good oral hygiene practise , you can definitely slow up it's progression.
