Hello, I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician.
I understand your concern â experiencing stomach pain after drinking water in the evening is unusual but can happen due to several factors, even if the water is normal temperature and sipped slowly
â Advices
⢠Avoid drinking large amounts of water at once in the evening; try smaller sips over time
⢠Eat lighter meals in the evening and avoid very spicy, oily, or heavy foods close to bedtime
⢠Observe if certain positions after drinking water, such as lying down immediately, trigger discomfort
What to Monitor
⢠Note if the pain occurs only after water or also after meals
⢠Mild warning signs include bloating, burping, or mild stomach cramps
Managment
Stomach discomfort after water can sometimes be related to acid reflux, gastritis, or delayed gastric emptying. If this persists, a doctor may recommend an ultrasound or endoscopy to rule out underlying issues
When to Consult a Doctor Immediately
⢠Severe or persistent abdominal pain
⢠Vomiting, blood in stool, or black/tarry stools
⢠Unexplained weight loss or persistent nausea
Every patientâs situation is unique. For accurate diagnosis and lasting relief, itâs important to discuss your medical history and symptoms in detail
You can reach out to me directly for this case, and also connect with me in future for any medical consultation

It’s possible that your evening stomach discomfort after drinking water is due to acid reflux, mild gastritis, or increased gastric sensitivity later in the day when digestion slows. Even plain water can trigger pain if your stomach lining is irritated or if you drink while lying down or soon after meals.
Avoid drinking water immediately before bed and try taking small sips between meals instead of after. Also, rule out H. pylori infection, acidity, or gallbladder-related issues if symptoms persist.

Gastritis or Ulcers: If you have inflammation of the stomach lining (gastritis) or ulcers, drinking water might trigger discomfort, especially if your stomach is already sensitive. Evening pain could be tied to meals or acid production peaking later in the day.
Gastroenteritis: A viral or bacterial infection could cause stomach pain after drinking water, as the stomach or intestines may be inflamed. This aligns with your fever and body pain.
