To manage gout, follow a diet low in purines, limiting foods like organ meats, seafood, beer, and sugary drinks, while emphasizing cherries, berries, leafy greens, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products, and staying hydrated with plenty of water.
Dear Patient,
Your previous ankle pain and swelling, accompanied by high uric acid levels, suggest a gout episode. Gout is a form of inflammatory arthritis caused by the accumulation of uric acid crystals in the joints, leading to severe pain, redness, and swelling.
ANKLE AND FOOT CENTERS
The persistent burning sensation in your leg and the noticeable increase in size of your right leg compared to the left are concerning. These symptoms may indicate lymphedema, a condition characterized by swelling due to lymphatic fluid accumulation, often resulting from impaired lymphatic drainage. Lymphedema can cause discomfort, a feeling of heaviness, and changes in skin texture.

Recommendations:
Consult a Healthcare Professional: It's essential to seek evaluation from a healthcare provider, preferably a vascular specialist or a physician experienced in lymphatic disorders, to determine the exact cause of your symptoms.
Diagnostic Imaging: Your doctor may recommend imaging studies, such as an ultrasound or MRI, to assess the lymphatic system and rule out other potential causes of unilateral leg swelling.
Monitor Uric Acid Levels: Continue to monitor and manage your uric acid levels to prevent future gout attacks. This may involve dietary modifications and, if necessary, medication.
Lifestyle Modifications: Elevate the affected leg when possible, engage in regular gentle exercise to promote circulation, and avoid prolonged periods of inactivity.
Compression Therapy: Depending on the diagnosis, compression garments may be recommended to help reduce swelling and improve lymphatic flow.
Early intervention is crucial in managing conditions like lymphedema to prevent progression and complications. Please schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider for a comprehensive evaluation and personalized treatment plan.
