Jaw stiffness after wisdom tooth extract
Pain in jaws while trying to open my mouth. No pain at tooth extraction site and it's been 8days after surgery and stitches are still there. Mouth opening is not happening like the way it was before surgery. It can fit only one finger, hence Dr postponed the stiches removal dates to 12days after surgery which was 7days.

Stiffness of jaw muscles may cause difficulty in opening mouth for few days The removal of lower wisdom teeth causes trauma to the surrounding muscles and sometimes bones. This trauma can lead to a condition called trismus, a restriction to mouth opening. It is common when the third molar is impacted.Trismus often goes away when muscles begin to relax.
Next Steps
The best treatment is doing these jaw exercises. Use heat compresses and cold compresses alternatively, this will relax your muscles. Massage your jaw muscles using your fingers. Stretching the teeth apart using your fingers between the front teeth. So that the mouth can open gradually and increase the jaw mobility
