Hi, It is completely understandable that a year of career instability, past toxic work environments, and financial pressure has left you feeling depleted both mentally and physically. Long-term job uncertainty creates chronic stress that directly impacts your physical health, making it crucial to break this cycle by shifting your focus from the overwhelming big picture to small, controllable daily actions. Start by prioritizing your baseline physical well-being—ensuring adequate sleep, basic nutrition, and daily movement—while setting strict boundaries on job searching so it doesn't consume your entire day. Consider reaching out to a mental health professional, a career counselor, or a trusted support system to process the emotional strain and map out a structured, realistic strategy for finding a healthier work environment.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Repeated job instability, toxic work environments, and uncertainty about your career can take a significant toll on mental health. It's understandable that you're feeling worried, emotionally drained, and physically exhausted. However, if these feelings have persisted for about a year, it's important to evaluate whether you're experiencing depression, anxiety, burnout, or a combination of these, rather than assuming it's only because of your job situation.
Next Steps
I recommend consulting a psychologist for a comprehensive assessment. Therapy can help you manage stress, rebuild confidence after negative work experiences, address fear of future jobs, and develop practical coping and career-planning strategies. If your symptoms are severe or affecting sleep, appetite, or daily functioning, a psychiatrist can also assess whether medication may be beneficial.
Health Tips
Try not to judge your self-worth based on your current job status or salary. Focus on one achievable career goal at a time instead of worrying about the entire future. Maintain a daily routine, stay connected with supportive people, and continue applying for opportunities while also taking care of your mental health. If you ever experience persistent hopelessness or thoughts of harming yourself, seek immediate help from a mental health professional. With the right support, you can work on both your emotional well-being and career direction. Sometimes, addressing the psychological impact of repeated setbacks makes it easier to regain confidence and make better career decisions.

Hi, thank you for sharing your concern. It must be emotionally distressing to go through repeated job struggles, financial uncertainty, and negative experiences at work. From what you have shared, these ongoing challenges seem to be affecting both your emotional well-being and physical health. Sometimes, prolonged stress and uncertainty can make us feel helpless and worried about the future. I would suggest consulting a counselling psychologist trained in CBT. Therapy can help you understand your thoughts and emotions, develop healthier coping strategies, and gradually rebuild your confidence while dealing with these challenges. You don’t have to handle this alone. Take one step at a time. Take care. Dr Namita Ranjan Counselling Psychologist

I'm sorry to hear that you've been going through such a difficult time. Ongoing job-related stress, financial uncertainty, and negative workplace experiences can significantly affect emotional and physical well-being. While these feelings are understandable and have been persisting for nearly a year, it would be helpful to seek support from a mental health professional such as a clinical psychologist. year of this is genuinely hard, and it makes sense you’re feeling low — you’re not just job hunting, you’re doing it while carrying the weight of what happened in those toxic workplaces before. That’s a lot for anyone’s mind and body to hold. The physical strain you mentioned is often the body’s way of showing stress that’s been building for a while. Let’s talk it through in a session so we can split the two problems apart — the job search itself, and how it’s affecting you mentally. It also helps to put some boundaries around the search, like 1 hour a day on applications and then stopping, since open-ended searching tends to feed anxiety, and if sleep, appetite, or energy have taken a hit, it’s worth getting that checked with a doctor too, alongside therapy. Try not to let this search decide how you see yourself — a rough job market and past bad experiences aren’t a reflection of your worth or ability. But if the low mood is there most days, most of the time, or you start feeling hopeless, please don’t sit with that alone — reach out sooner rather than later.
