My mother, who is 65 year old had consulted dr Kumar for left eye cataract operation. He gave a big list of pre operative investigations which included Vdrl, HIV, hepatitis, lipiview *** * *** ** *********** tests ***** * **** ***** **** *** ****** ***** *** Just 6 months back my mother did a cataract surgery of right at a very reputed hospital in Bangalore ***** **** ***** **** *** **** ***** ***** ****** *** ** ***** *** as per guidelines of Indian ophthalmologic society as well as protocol suggested by government of India. We gave them the reports for all the required tests and accordingly we were given date for operation on 19th December at 10.30 Am.

My mother started taking pre operation medicines and eye drops as advised by the doctor and was mentally prepared for the same. But a day prior, they informed that we will have to consult a urologist as her urine has 30 to 35 leucocytes HPF and for this reason her operation date has been cancelled. My mother who is a senior citizen and a simple house wife was very hesitant to undergo tests for HIV, VD, hepatitis etc at this age. Naturally all patients coming for cataract surgery to such institutions are elderly and homely people.

In contrary to international protocols, their preoperative investigations/ consultation was done by paramedical staff who was not properly uniformed, not following any sanitation measures. Their staff was far far away from any international standards in handling the patients and following the procedures. All their pre operative optical tests were done in a single hall which also houses reception, patients, a coffee counter, all sorts of instruments and an optical shop.
