What is Implantation ?

Embryo adheres to wall of uterus.

Why it is necessary ?

Due to implantation embryo receives nutrition & oxygen from uterus.

When it occurs ?

After ovulation– from 6 to 12 days, average after 9 days

After fertilization/ conception  –  in 6 to 8 days.

After intercourse – from 0 to 5 days fertilization or conception occurs.

What is implantation window ?

It is reception ready phase of uterus. It is about 4 days. It starts about 6 to 10 days post ovulation.

How embryo feeds till implantation ?

Embryo feeds on nutrition present in uterine secretions till implantation.

What is implantation failure ?

Fertilization occurs but embryo fails to adhere to urine wall.

It is caused by inadequate uterine receptivity in two-thirds of cases, and by problems with the embryo itself in the other third.

What is role of progesterone ?

Progesterone helps in  increasing  the success rate of implantation and early embryogenesis.

Basically it thereby complements the function of the corpus luteum.

What is role of low molecular weight heparin ?

In women with more than 3 implantation failures in assisted reproduction low molecular weight heparin helps.

The use of adjunct low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) improves live birth rate.

What is implantation bleeding ?

It is spotting and, sometimes, cramping. It occurs anywhere from six to 12 days after the egg is fertilized.

The cramps resemble menstrual cramps, so some women mistake them and the bleeding for the start of their period.
