Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for hair loss is suitable for male pattern baldness, thinning hair and female hair loss. It can be used to thicken existing hair and encourage the growth of new hair.
Thinning or bald patches on the scalp can be treated by Platelet Rich Plasma which stimulates t hair follicles, encouraging them to start growing again.
Blood is taken from the patient in exactly the same way that it would be taken during a routine blood test. This blood is then spun in a centrifuge which separates out the cells, serum and platelets. These platelets (containing the natural growth factors that stimulate inactive cells to promote collagen and tissue growth) are then drawn into a syringe and injected into areas of the scalp.
Performed under a local anaesthetic, the procedure is relatively comfortable and has little to no downtime.
You should start to see and feel an improvement to the treated area within three months of the treatment and you will also notice a reduction in the amount of hair being shed. During the following six months the hair will start to look and feel thicker.
PRP is not a permanent cure for baldness and will not prevent new bald areas from forming. It should thicken the hair in the area that has been treated and reduce the amount of hair that is shed. How to prevent hair loss
It is not possible to prevent hair loss, however limiting the use of heat appliances and avoiding too many chemicals will improve the texture and quality of your hair. Hair extensions can be particularly bad for the hair and have been known to cause temporary or permanent bald patches.
