Well, “PRP” stands for Platelet Rich Plasma, and is a new novel way of treating skin and hair problems. Platelets are rich in growth factors which can induce growth of any cell, that may be hair root cells (papilla cells), or collagen cells (fibroblast) or joint cells (synovial membrane cells).

How it is prepared?-

PRP is prepared from your blood. Around 20-25 ml blood is withdrawn in PRP kit or in small vials and spun in centrifuge machine. This spin separates blood into its various constituents; like red cells on the bottom, plasma on the top( Called Platelet Poor Plasma), and platelets in the middle on top of the red blood cell layer known as the “buffy coat”. The buffy coat is taken and further concentrated by fast spins, which later activated by calcium and keep in small syringes to inject into scalp skin.

Doc, What is your experience with PRP Therapy?

Well, it’s true that there is no ‘IDEAL MEDICINE’ for hair growth. So my purpose is give combination therapies which have best evidence in favor of hair growth. like - monthly once PRP therapy+medicines.  Till date, medicines are on top of the list but PRP has shown a good effect when given in combination with medicines.I recommend PRP therapy in male and female patterned hair loss and after hair transplant. I found decent result with PRP therapy, although result may vary from person to person. Still I want to say that it’s a new therapy so a lot of research is to be done to establish its overall effect.
