Exercise will help you to recover from knee replacement surgery. Most of the doctors suggest to do exercise after knee replacement surgery. According to Dr. Kunal Patel, Exercise is important to improve the motion of your knee as well as to prevent complications and to build strength. Your orthopedic surgeon or doctor may recommend you to do exercise approximately 25-30 minutes two or three times in a day. A regular exercise you perform after surgery will help you to strengthen your knee and improve flexibility.

Here is a list of some exercise suggested by the doctor after knee replacement surgery:

  • Straight leg raise: Lie on your back, with uninvolved knee bent, straighten your involved knee. Slowly lift about 6 inches for 10 seconds. Repeat this for 10 times. This exercise will helps strengthen the quadriceps muscle in your thigh and improve the stability of your knee joint.
  • Ankle Pumps: Lie on your Move your foot up and down rhythmically by contracting the calf and shin muscles. Repeat this exercise for 2-3 minutes. This exercise Helps to circulate blood back to the heart.
  • Thigh squeezesLie on your back. Tighten the muscles on the front of your thigh by pushing the back of your knee down into the bed. Hold for 10 seconds and relax. This exercise helps reduce swelling in the knee and build quadriceps strength.
  • Leg slides: Lie on your Slide your leg out to the side while your kneecap is pointed upward. Then slide your leg back to the starting position.
  • Prolonged knee stretch: Sit in a chair. Bend your knee back as far as possible, and hold for 15-30 seconds. This exercise will help to increase range of motion.

As you increase the intensity of your exercise program, you may experience temporary setbacks. If your knee hurts or swells after a particular exercise activity, you should stop the activity until you feel better. These exercises will helps you to faster recovery.
