Degenerative changes in joints and reduction in joint spaces are called Osteoarthritis.
CAUSES:
- Age factor (common in old age)
- Can be genetic
- Due to increased weight (obese people)
- Abnormal joints at birth
- Gout
- Diabetes
- Other hormonal imbalance
- History of repeated injury and/or joint surgery
SYMPTOMS:
- Pain
- Inflammation
- Decreased mobility
TREATMENT:
- Analgesics and anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs)
- Physiotherapy
- Exercises (strengthening, mobility, swimming, walking, cycling)
- Modalities (TENS, US, hot pack)
COMPLICATIONS:
- The stiffness of joints
- Secondary diseases
- Prone to dislocation
