Workout restrictions after laser surgery
Query Title: Workout restrictions after laser surgery for hemorrhoid, fistula, and fissure Query Details: Hello Doctor, I underwent laser surgery for hemorrhoid, fistula, and fissure on 27th October. Currently, I feel much better, though there is some mild pain and itching, which is manageable. I’m in regular touch with my surgeon. However, I have a concern regarding workouts. I used to do hypertrophy muscle-building exercises before the surgery, but I have heard there might be restrictions on such workouts post-surgery. Is that true? I’ve already made dietary adjustments like avoiding spicy/street food, and I’m okay with that. But losing muscle and seeing my weight drop is disheartening, and I’d like to know if and when I can safely resume intense workouts. Your advice would mean a lot. Thank you!

Please consult your Surgeon. Let him not say that "you developed complications because you started your workout a bit too soon".

It's already been 3 months now.  You are free to do whatever you choose.  The answers here have too much confusing statements.  But think about it logically,  how can weight training affect your hemorrhoid surgical site after 3 months?

As muscle hypertrophy exercise engages with the core abdominal muscles , the increases abdominal pressure even more. So the chances of slow wound healing and reoccurrence increases.
Next Steps
Better start with mild cardio exercises like a brisk walking etc and gradually increase as it allows your body to adapt and adjust . Follow dietary guidelines for better health.

Yes you can start exercising. Physical rehabilitation is always advised post any major surgery for a better recovery. It is advisable to start with low weights and slowly step up on the strength training as per how your body is feeling.

It’s great to hear that you are recovering well after your surgery. The mild pain and itching are common during the healing phase, but it's good to know that they are manageable. Staying in touch with your surgeon is crucial for monitoring progress. Regarding workouts, hypertrophy muscle-building exercises may need to be postponed temporarily. Intense workouts can increase abdominal pressure, which might strain the surgical site and hinder proper healing. Here's what you can consider: 1. Timeline: Generally, light physical activity such as walking can be resumed within 1–2 weeks post-surgery. For more intense exercises like hypertrophy training, it is usually advisable to wait at least 6–8 weeks, depending on your healing progress and your surgeon’s advice. 2. Gradual Return: Start with low-impact exercises, focusing on core stability and avoiding heavy lifting initially. Gradually increase intensity as you regain strength and comfort. 3. Listen to Your Body: Any pain, discomfort, or unusual symptoms during or after workouts should be a signal to stop and consult your doctor. 4. Nutrition: Since you're avoiding spicy/street food, ensure your diet is rich in protein, fiber, and other nutrients to support healing and muscle maintenance.

Hello, It's good to hear that you're feeling better after the surgery. Laser procedures for hemorrhoids, fistula, and fissure generally allow for quicker recovery compared to traditional surgeries. However, it's important to ensure your body has healed sufficiently before resuming intense workouts, especially hypertrophy muscle-building exercises. Mild pain and itching are normal during the healing process, but engaging in strenuous physical activity too early could strain the surgical site and delay recovery. Typically, light activities such as walking can be resumed within 1-2 weeks post-surgery, while heavier exercises should ideally wait for at least 4-6 weeks or until your surgeon confirms complete healing. For now, focus on maintaining a balanced, high-protein diet to preserve muscle mass and aid tissue repair. Incorporating light stretching or yoga (if comfortable) can help keep you active without overexerting. I recommend consulting your surgeon for a personalized timeline based on your recovery progress. If you'd like a detailed evaluation and tailored advice, feel free to reach out to me. You can contact me on WhatsApp at eight zero zero nine eight two one three three two for further guidance. Take care,
