Scratch by Dog
In July 2023, I was vaccinated with ARV on 0,3,7,28 days due to dog scratch and in September 2023 I was again vaccinated with ARV only for two days due cat nail scratch and in September 2023 . Now, I had a minor incident with a dog yesterday - there was no bite, no bleeding, and no visible scratch. I only lightly bumped into the dog, and later felt slight itching on my skin, but I couldn't find visible affected spot. Given this history, I want to know if I need to take the rabies vaccine again, or if the previous vaccinations still provide protection."

If there's no visible wound there's no need for vaccination, itching could be due to contact with an irritant, I would prescribe the tab. Cetrizine for 3 days once at night. If you suspect a wound and you think you are not certain of it, then wash under running water for 10-15 mins and any simple soap, vaccination will be recommended for 0 and 3rd day.

Itching might be due to contact, if there is no scratch, bite or bleeding, then vaccination is not required. Just wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and running tap water.

Previous vaccines will not be effective now. If no bite, no scratch, no vaccine is needed. Just clean the affected part very well.
