Need to lose weigh and cure constipation
I am a 34-year-old female suffering from chronic constipation with incomplete bowel emptying, bloating, and gas for the past 8 years since pregnancy. I have bowel movements daily, but I never feel completely emptied. Over the last year, my weight increased from 58 kg to 63 kg despite trying diet changes, home remedies, and Siddha treatment. I also spent a significant amount on treatments and abdominal and pelvic scans, which were normal. My recent blood tests showed HbA1c 5.8%, TSH 5.7 with normal T3 and T4, and low iron levels. Liver, kidney, cholesterol, and blood counts are normal. I cannot tolerate high-protein diets as they worsen my bloating and gas. Could my long-standing constipation be contributing to my difficulty losing weight? I would like to lose around 8 kg and would appreciate guidance on managing chronic constipation and achieving healthy weight loss.

Uttanapadasana, Pavana mukthasana, Setubandhasana, marjalasana are the yoga postures beneficial in constipation. 1 hour brisk walk is best exercise, you can do without causing any injury to your knee cartilage. Eat more vegetables, reduce carbohydrates and proteins also. Nowadays nobody dies because of fasting, die because of overeating. Dumping food into your stomach is damaging rather than fasting. Do fasting. At least you reduce your food intake only two times per day. In Ayurveda, santarpanottha vikaras are nothing but overeating disorders. In Ayurveda fasting is mentioned as one of the medicines. “Langhanam paramoushadham “ told in Sanskrit. Your body and mind become purified and more active by fasting. Read recent research reports how fasting benefits in curing diseases.

Namastey Your history suggests that chronic constipation, incomplete bowel evacuation, bloating, and abdominal distension have been persistent since pregnancy and are significantly affecting your quality of life. While constipation itself does not directly cause large amounts of weight gain, chronic digestive dysfunction can contribute to abdominal heaviness, bloating, fluid retention, reduced physical comfort, altered eating patterns, and difficulty maintaining a healthy weight. A few findings in your history deserve attention: TSH of 5.7 (with normal T3 and T4) may indicate mild thyroid underactivity or subclinical hypothyroidism, which can sometimes contribute to constipation, sluggish metabolism, and difficulty losing weight. Low iron levels may contribute to fatigue and reduced physical activity tolerance. The fact that your scans are normal is reassuring and reduces the likelihood of a major structural problem. Your inability to tolerate high-protein diets due to bloating suggests that focusing solely on protein-based weight-loss plans may not be suitable for your digestive system. From an Ayurvedic perspective, long-standing constipation and bloating are often associated with disturbed digestion and Vata imbalance, which may require a comprehensive approach rather than simply focusing on weight reduction.
Next Steps
The primary goal should be to improve bowel quality and digestive comfort, not just the number on the weighing scale. Keep track of: Frequency and consistency of stools. Degree of straining. Sensation of incomplete evacuation. Foods that worsen bloating. Meal timings and sleep schedule. Try eating at consistent times each day and avoid long gaps between meals. Since your symptoms have persisted for 8 years despite various efforts, a detailed and individualized treatment plan is likely to be more beneficial than repeatedly trying different diets or remedies. For personalized assessment, better guidance, and a holistic Ayurvedic treatment approach for chronic constipation, bloating, and weight management, you may connect with us at 9 3 1 5 6 6 1 5 6 5.
Health Tips
Aim for regular meal timings, adequate hydration, daily physical activity, and proper sleep. Include cooked vegetables, seasonal fruits that suit your digestion, and fiber-rich foods in moderation rather than abruptly increasing fiber intake. Eat slowly, chew thoroughly, and avoid eating when stressed or distracted. A gentle walk after meals can help improve digestion and reduce bloating. Most importantly, do not become discouraged. Chronic constipation that has persisted for years often requires a structured, long-term approach. Once bowel function, digestion, and overall metabolic balance improve, healthy and sustainable weight loss often becomes much easier to achieve. Thank you

Since your constipation, bloating, incomplete evacuation, and dryness have been there for many years, we need to understand why it keeps recurring rather than only treating the symptoms. In Ayurveda, your body constitution and digestive pattern can also be one of the reasons behind this. For example, a Vata-dominant body type may naturally have dryness, irregular appetite, bloating, constipation, and disturbed sleep. But we cannot assume this without analysing your constitution, as every person’s body is different and what suits one person may not suit another. First, we need to understand your body type, digestion, and what is causing this imbalance. The treatment approach would generally focus on: • Correcting bowel function and supporting proper elimination with suitable medicines after assessment • Nourishing and supporting the gut, especially in chronic dryness conditions • Creating a diet and lifestyle routine that suits your body and helps prevent recurrence Rather than focusing only on weight loss, it is important to first improve digestion and gut health. When digestion and metabolism are better balanced, the body can process nutrients more effectively and support overall health. Your HbA1c (5.8%) and low iron levels also need to be monitored along with this.
Next Steps
A proper consultation will help understand your body better and plan a personalised approach for you.
Health Tips
Meanwhile, you can start with simple supportive changes: • Keep water intake around 2 litres/day (if no fluid restriction). • Include good healthy fats; if suitable, 1 tsp ghee may be started in the morning or bedtime. • Prefer well-cooked food and avoid excess raw foods if they worsen bloating. • Try to include leafy vegetables regularly (around 150 g/day as tolerated).

“Chronic constipation with incomplete evacuation can contribute to bloating and a feeling of weight gain, but it is usually not the main reason for difficulty losing weight. Your mildly elevated TSH, prediabetes (HbA1c 5.8%) and low iron may also be contributing and should be addressed. Since your symptoms have persisted for years despite treatment and scans are normal, a detailed evaluation of bowel habits, diet, pelvic floor function and digestion is needed. Ayurveda can help improve bowel function and metabolism, but treatment should be individualized rather than relying on laxatives alone. Please consult me so I can assess your condition and prepare a personalized plan for constipation and healthy weight loss.
