Loose motion and fever
Hello Doctor, I have had a fever and frequent bowel movements for the last 5 days. Stool: Frequent urge to go, but the stool is not watery (it is normal/semi-formed) Fever: Persistent; returns after Dolo 650 wears off. Medicines taken: Dolo 650 and Loperamide (neither has resolved the problem). Please advise on the right treatment

Stop Loperamide for now, as it should be avoided in diarrhea with fever Take ORS frequently to prevent dehydration. Paracetamol 650 mg can be taken for fever, Consult a physician for examination and investigations such as CBC, CRP, and stool examination, with further tests based on findings.

You have had fever for 5 days with frequent bowel movements, so an in-person evaluation is advisable rather than continuing loperamide. If you’re looking for a detailed evaluation and personalized treatment plan, you’re welcome to consult me directly.
Next Steps
Check CBC, CRP, LFT, and tests for infections such as dengue/malaria or typhoid depending on examination and local prevalence. Maintain good hydration with ORS and fluids. Avoid loperamide while fever is present until an infectious cause is ruled out.
Health Tips
Seek urgent care if there is blood in stool, severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, dehydration, confusion, breathing difficulty, or very high/persistent fever.

Hello, since you have persistent fever for 5 days along with frequent bowel movements, even though the stools are not watery, you should get evaluated rather than continuing loperamide. For now: Paracetamol 650 mg as needed for fever (maximum 3,000 mg/day). Take ORS and plenty of fluids. Avoid loperamide while fever is ongoing. I would recommend CBC, CRP, LFT, kidney function/electrolytes, and testing for malaria/dengue and enteric fever as clinically indicated. A blood culture is useful if enteric fever is suspected, preferably before antibiotics. Do not start antibiotics empirically without examination/testing unless your doctor finds a clear indication.

As you are saying that there is frequent stools but not watery and fever too. But it was watery from starting or not? What was your last food before this condition? If it was watery at the starting and after taking loperamide which is an antidiarrheal Medicine then it can be due to this that now your stool is not watery But you had fever and still frequent stools,it can be due to that there is some infection which was not able to come out with watery stools before taking medication, Sometimes there is No need to take medicine asap because body's natural feature is to throw out the infection through stools or vomiting.
Next Steps
but now you have to stay hydrated and must go for blood tests. if there will be any infection then further treatment will be needed. must consult the doctor

Since the fever has been continuing for 5 days along with frequent bowel movements, I’d suggest getting yourself examined once rather than continuing loperamide on your own.
Next Steps
Please get your vitals and hydration status checked. Do get some basic blood tests done, and we’ll decide on further tests based on your symptoms and lab findings. Meanwhile, keep yourself well hydrated and take ORS regularly.
Health Tips
If you develop severe abdominal pain, blood in stools, repeated vomiting, severe weakness, reduced urine output, or confusion, please seek medical attention immediately.

First of all see a good Doctor and stop Loperamide. 5 Days seems a bit longer duration for problem you have. You should go for initial assessment for perfect diagnosis and medications. But still you can take ORS, PCM (1-0-1), Enterogermina(1-0-0), Sporolac DS (0-0-1)
Next Steps
Tests - USG Whole Abdomen, CBC, LFT, RFT, CRP, ESR WIDAL, MP BY CARD, Urine R/M take IVs if it's not reliving by oral medications
Health Tips
Do visit doctor with this report so that related antibiotics could be added

Five days of fever with frequent stools needs an examination to rule out an intestinal infection and dehydration. Please stop loperamide for now, especially if there is blood or mucus; continue frequent ORS and a light diet. I advise a same-day review for hydration assessment and basic tests rather than adding medicines blindly. You can book a Practo consult or visit me at Synergy Multispeciality Hospital, Miraj.
Next Steps
Get examined today for hydration and appropriate tests; continue ORS and seek urgent care for dizziness, very low urine, blood in stool, or worsening fever.

A persistent fever lasting 5 days paired with frequent urges to pass semi-formed stool points toward an invasive entero-invasive infection (such as Enteric/Typhoid fever) or infectious colitis rather than simple watery diarrhea. Taking Loperamide is specifically counterproductive here; antimotility agents gut clearance and trap invasive bacteria and toxins inside your intestinal wall, which prolongs the infection and fever. Because your fever recurs as soon as paracetamol wears off, this requires targeted antimicrobial therapy based on proper lab investigations rather than symptom suppressants.
Next Steps
Stop taking Loperamide immediately to let your intestines naturally clear infectious waste. You need basic fever and gastrointestinal blood work—including a Complete Blood Count (CBC), CRP, Blood Culture, and Widal/Typhidot or stool routine test—to isolate the exact bug. Please book an online consultation with me right away. so, we can review your vitals, start an appropriate antibiotic regimen, and get your fever under control safely.
Health Tips
Never use antimotility drugs like Loperamide when a fever or bloody/mucus stool is present, as it carries a risk of severe toxic megacolon. Maintain strict hydration with oral rehydration salts (ORS), tender coconut water, and a bland, easily digestible diet such as khichdi, curd-rice, and boiled potatoes. Seek immediate physical hospital emergency care if you experience severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, black or bloody stools, or extreme dizziness.

A fever and loose motions lasting five days without improvement on Dolo and Loperamide needs a proper check up rather than more of the same medicines.
Next Steps
Please see a physician for a stool test and basic blood work to find the exact cause and get the right treatment.
Health Tips
Keep yourself well hydrated with ORS, and seek care urgently if you see blood in the stool or feel very weak.
