Knot in the back
I have had a small knot like thing on my back, a couple of inches below the shoulder. It was very small when I first noticed it a year ago, probably half a centimetre maximum. I had gone for a back massage at a spa around the same time, where the masseuse mentioned it, and worked on it. It had disappeared for a few weeks after the massage. However, it resurfaced, and after a year, it is a centimetre big. When I touch it, the knot-like thing moves around below the skin. I have no other issues with it except that if I press it hard to see what happens, I feel a pain (more to do with the pressure and not a stinging pain). I am trying to figure out what could be the cause. I do have bad sitting posture when it comes to resting. I generally don't have good neck or back support and am not mindful of the way I sit. Could that be the problem, and how do I get rid of this?

It could be just a lypoma... Generally no need to worry about it. If it is causing any pain or irritation then surgeon will remove it. But just get it checked by general surgeon once.
Next Steps
consult with general surgeon.

As you said only with more pressure on the affected site you get pain, It could be Lipoma. It is a overgrowth of fat tissue under the skin. In trigger point you would have pain when you palpate that site.
Next Steps
You need to consult a Physician or Physiotherapist for further evaluation and treatment.

Hello According to your history may be it's a trigger point in a muscle or a ganglion. I have few questions like can u feel pain over that area..? Or can u feel the pain while any movement..? If it's a trigger point in a muscle then just try to do the myofascial release. Just place a foam roller or a firm massage ball and try to do the back n forth movement for about 10 min twice a day.
Next Steps
Consult the physician or physiotherapist and diagnose the proper condition.
Health Tips
Try to take the back support while doing your desk job. Try to avoid sitting for long duration take some rest in between the work hours. Try to follow the proper ergonomics.
