I've had hair fall for 5 years. No issues before 2020, then suddenly 50-100 hairs/day started falling. Eyebrows also thinning/receding.
Saw dermatologist in 2020: prescribed minoxidil, zydip c lotion, ketoconazole shampoo, tablets. After 3 months, same prescription again. Hair fall reduced slightly but no regrowth in lost areas.
Saw multiple doctors 2020-2024: similar medicines with minor variations. Hair fall kept increasing.
2024: Added finasteride for 4 months. Hair fall reduced BUT growth completely stopped/severely slowed. Stopped medicine after 1 month - growth resumed very slowly. After 4 months, same problem returned. Now beard patches forming (healing on their own).
Tests done (2020 & 2024): thyroid, vitamin D, hemoglobin - all normal both times.
Question: Should I continue seeing dermatologists or consult another doctor who can examine my body and find the main underlying cause instead of just treating symptoms?

Since your hairfall is persistent and pattern has changed it is important to look out for an underlying cause to it rather than looking out for temporary solutions.
Below are some pointers which will help you understand what you need to consider:
- Hair fall can be due to conditions like alopecia areata, low vitamin B12, zinc or iron levels which can lead to patchy hair loss.
- Finasteride can help reduce hair fall but there can be hormonal imbalance which may reduce the hair growth.
- Include protein rich foods such as lentils, paneer, tofu, eggs, fish and chicken which will support keratin formation and strengthen your roots.
- Vitamin C rich foods such as citrus fruits, amla, guava and bell peppers will help absorb iron and improve blood flow to the scalp.
- Foods such as green leafy vegetables, garden cress seeds and dates will help increase iron levels.
- B12 rich sources such as whole grains, fortified cereals, dairy and eggs will prevent thinning.
- Biotin rich foods such as nuts and seeds, eggs, fatty fish, legumes and avocados will help grow stronger hair.

Hello there,
You can pause your dermat for sometime and start lifestyle changes like better sleep quality, good hydration, stress management through meditation and breathing exercises. One hack to lower your cortisol levels instantly is to do diaphragmatic breathing (search online for method)
Eat a well balanced diet including everything that your hair need to grow protein, zinc, iron, B12, biotin, vitamin C, vitamin E.
Also limit outside food, deep fried, high calorie foods, sugars, refined carbs, excess starch etc.
A well nourished meal with lifestyle change can have a great impact on your hair health. It will take time cause it's a treatment process, this condition needs a lot of patience, so trust the process.

Hello sir
Your age, diet habits, stress levels and other factors also have to be considered.
You could still see a dermatologist but protein supplement in your diet.
Use warm coconut oil twice a day.
Use a mild shampoo and check the results after a month.
That’s a very good question- especially since eyebrows thinning along with hair loss can sometimes point to deeper health issues beyond typical male pattern baldness
Continue with dermatologist but also check for underlying causes - it’s worth adding a another doctor like endocrinologist or physician to look for root causes
If autoimmune cause is suspected, your dermatologist can also collaborate with an immunologist
What can do now
Avoid harsh shampoo or over styling
Take balanced diet rich in protein, iron ( lean meat , spinach , lentils), zinc ( nuts, seeds) , omega-3 ( flaxseed, fish )
Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep and manage stress
Don’t start supplements blindly-test first
