For a child who is 3.5 years old, the ideal weight from him should range around 14-16 kgs which will depend on his height and growth. Your child weighs 13 kgs, which is slightly less than the ideal. Your focus should be on maintaining a healthy growth rather than just gaining weight. Below practices can help your child achieve healthy weight: - Give him small and frequent meals throughout the day which should be home made and nutrient dense. - Focus on giving foods dense in energy such as whole grains, nuts and oilseeds, milk and milk products, eggs, fish and meat in small portions. - Include good fats in his diet such as ghee, nuts and oilseeds, or nut butters. - You can try incorporating different food combinations such as a bowl of vegetable upma or poha with curd, whole toast with either paneer bhurji, a paneer vegetable wrap, peas pulao with curd, etc. - Right nutrients can be added to the diet by including more fruits and vegetables. - You can mix vegetable purees to parathas, dosa batter, or chilla batter for making it look colourful. - Blend vegetables like tomato, carrots, or bottle gourd into dals, sabzis and curries to make it creamier. - Avoid giving him fast foods, packaged snacks, sugary sweets and chocolates and refined sugars as they do not provide with any essential nutrients. - Make sure that he regularly goes and play outdoors, have a good sleep schedule and get routine health-checkups done to support his overall wellbeing.
