My son's weight is not increasing
Hi, this is Imran from Nashik. This is regarding my son Umair who is 4.6yrs old. I am worried about his weight which is not increasing rather decreasing and he is about 13kg as of now. His eating habits are good means he loves to eat anything and he eats around 5 to 6 times a day(veg+ non-veg) but his weight is not at all increasing rather his height is increasing and so he looks like very skinny boy. So I am very much worried regarding his health. He had been operated for hypopedius around 1.5yrs back & last year one ENT specialist told us that he has adenoid. When he was born he used to have semilac milk & he was in a good shape but after the operation we have noticed only his height is increasing. Can you please suggest some diet plan/ any suppliment / medicine so his weight can increase. Thanks in advance.

Hi If he is active and growing tall in height like other children then it's fine ...some children are exactly like that in that age..they look very thin and doesn't increase in weight ...but height is normal ... They gain weight as they age... don't stress and focus much on that...just see for visible clinical symptoms if any... If there are no such symptoms and he is looking and feeling active then you can leave about it.. Dietary advise would be sweet potato kheer, banana milk shakes, kheer made with nuts, milk and milk products, good protein rich foods, roots and Tuber vegetables, chew foods well, take sufficient time to eat the meals, good portion of meals, regular eating habits, rest and relax well, exposure to sun are all recommend.. Thankyou
Next Steps
please consult doctor if the weight further decreases...

Hello Imran The surgical process you have mentioned here and the adenoid they both has no effect on his condition. As you said his heigh is increasing rather than his weight and you told also that he is not fussy eater. So i would say just bcoz he looks skinny is not a problem. If child is active he is doing what a 4.6 years child does than no problem he is perfectly fine. About weight than I can suggest include Milk(pediasure 4+) Banana Eggs And some fats like cheese, Dryfruits These can help but again I say if child is active don't worry height is increasing not to worry.
Next Steps
Sometimes it happens like in this age you or might be your wife is skinny so it is inherent by your son and as time will pass he will also gain fat in his body. if you still not satisfy than can ask and pediatrician.

Mentioned surgical process has no effect on child growth. Let the child eat and play, do not impose anything on him. If still not growing, try giving him more of fruits and it's juices, cereals and nuts. If still problem persists, you need to ask a dietician in person. If you feel you can contact me online on practo.
