Hi...
1.) As the name suggests, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) works by changing one's thoughts, emotions, and behaviours that inhibit his/her psychosocial functioning.
2.) Brain and gut are found to be very much connected, especially in terms of stress, anxiety, and depression.
These are very simplistic definitions of complex treatment methods, please do not consider them all bounding.
Also please understand this, a heart patient doesn't need to learn complete heart surgery to get treatment. It's the surgeon's job. A patient just need to know how and if it is going to help or not. Sometimes knowing too much about the treatment methodology only interferes with the treatment.
