Hi, CBT is a form of approach that a therapist uses  in helping a client manage his or her challenges better. There are various techniques and exercises in CBT that can be  prescribed by the therapist according to the requirements of the client. Your therapist will always inform you the line of therapy he or she is planning for you to understand if you are comfortable with it or not. Hope your query was resolved. Take care.

CBT is a structured and goal-oriented form of psychotherapy that helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviours. CBT is purely a collaborative effort between the client and the counsellor. It won’t work without trust and appropriate efforts put in by the individual. It focuses on teaching practical skills to manage and overcome various mental health issues.

CBT is a solution focused approach which focuses on identifying and working on certain thought patterns which may be unhealthy or negative in nature. Along with this comes a change in emotions and behaviours. As a client, it is your right to know about the approach a therapist is using. Psychoeducation is an integral part of the counseling process. You can directly ask the concerned mental health professional if they are trained in CBT and ask them to help you understand more about it. In practice, a common identifier of a therapist using CBT may look like setting of short term and long term goals, giving certain homeworks/worksheets and creating a plan of action with you, as a client. I hope this answers your question and provides you with clarity.

Hi. CBT is a type of therapeutic approach that a therapist uses. It’s called Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Using CBT means the client will be asked to challenge their irrational or negative thoughts, which in turn leads to behaviour change, generally, there will be worksheets, and homework involved. CBT can be used for most of the issues, however it is the therapist’s decision to use it. A client usually won’t know what kind of the therapeutic approach their therapist is using. It is best not to try to guess, and just ask your therapist to explain what approach they will be using with you.
Health Tips
During the goal planning stages of therapy would be a good time to ask the therapist what kind of approach they would be using with you. You could also ask them for reading materials on the same.
