Chronic cheek bite
I have an impacted third molar that is giving me constant irritation, dull ache and pain on palpating! Now i have developed this chronic cheek bite habbit on that side ! ( I subconsciously take the inside of my cheeks between my teeths) I cannot stop this behaviour! In return, i have got trauma marks/ teeth scars/ redness/ raised linea alba etc on that side of soft tissue! I've tried moth gaurd which was uncomfortable to wear throughout the day, blowing excersice etc whichever a doctor could suggest! Nothing is helping! When i apply some analgesic gel i get some relief, but in 15 mins it gets back to normal. Is this called morcicatto bucarrum? Read it on goggle ! Idk what is this, is there any treatment other than therapies etc? Iam looking for an active treatment not behaviours therapies! Pls help! Could this be bcs of impacted molar pain? Cs I developed this habbit post molar impaction !! Been 2 yrs that iam suffering

It sounds like you're dealing with a complex situation involving an impacted third molar (wisdom tooth) and a chronic cheek biting habit. The condition you mentioned, "morsicatio buccarum," refers to chronic cheek biting. This can indeed be exacerbated by factors like discomfort from an impacted tooth or other sources of oral irritation. Since you're experiencing ongoing discomfort and have tried various approaches, it's important to consult with a dentist or oral surgeon. They can evaluate your specific situation and provide tailored advice and treatment options. In your case, treatment might involve addressing the impacted tooth, potentially through extraction if it's causing ongoing problems. Additionally, they might suggest strategies to manage the cheek biting habit, which could include mouth guards, behavioral therapies, and other interventions. It's worth discussing your concerns with a dental professional who can provide a comprehensive assessment and recommend appropriate treatment to address both the impacted tooth and the cheek biting habit. They can help you find a solution that works for you and offers relief from your symptoms.

First of all you should visit a dentist.. The white irritating patches can have multiple differential diagnosis. It may be the case of chronic cheek bite as well. If that is the case, you don't have to worry. First visit a dentist, there are usually two approaches. First the Dentist tries to reduce the sharp cusps which are causing cheek bite. But if that does not work. Extraction of third molar will help.

Your problem is quite common. An impacted tooth could lead to cheek biting issues if it’s partially erupted. If it’s completely impacted into the bone and soft tissue then it’s less likely to cause such symptoms. So, you need to get an X ray of that area to confirm the angulation and level of impaction of that tooth. Also, once cheek biting starts there’s some swelling in that area that ultimately leads to more cheek biting. You have to control your sucking in of cheek in that area that keeps happening on its own. Mouth guard is a good option but it usually takes a little while for patient to get adjusted to it. All the symptoms like redness bite marks could be related to your biting habit. Lines alba is no big deal that may be prominent in any normal being during periods of stress as well or with sharp cusps of teeth.
Next Steps
Try getting adjusted to wearing night guard. If not throughout the day then atleast during the night.
Health Tips
Keep reminding yourself not to bite your cheek

I think you’ve done all the home remedies that can be done. Now you should visit a dentist and get it checked. Most probably they’ll ask you to remove it only if you have chronic cheek biting plus some exercises would help. Like taking cold water and keeping it in mouth on affected side. But you need a treatment rather than remedies right now. So visit your nearby dentist

Hi, I suggest you get an OPG taken to evaluate the position of the wisdom tooth. Removal of the wisdom tooth will solve this habit.
